Delanie- Final Reflection Paper (580 words) The first question I picked is “What do you take away from this class? Why?” and I will certainly take away a lot of things. I have always struggled with math, regardless of the subject and no matter how much time I put into it. But this year I gave math my very best, I took extensive notes and asked questions and I think that’s one thing I will always do now, have the confidence to ask questions. Especially with the math I will be taught in college, I’ll need all the help I can get, which is exactly what I will do. This year also brought my confidence back to take charge and take on math. My freshman year I was scared out of my mind about coming to math class because I never felt confident in what I’m learning, but I’ve worked on focusing and now I feel confidence to take math to a college level. The second question I chose to answer is, “What was something we did this year that was difficult for you? Why?” and that answer is easy, EVERYTHING. Math is not my strong suit, so every chapter was a struggle, but the chapter I struggled with the most would be Chapter Six, which has to do with the Binomial Probabilities and Distributions. I don’t know if that week was super busy and I couldn’t pay attention, but that Chapter did not mix well with me. Chapter Six included a table for more calculations, and since that was the first table being introduced I had a tough time finding how to use and correcting my mistakes. This was also the first chapter that required a number of steps within one problem, which was hard for me to move through because one mess up in the beginning of the problem could affect your answers for every one after that, which was the case for me. The third question I will be answering is, “What was different about this class than you expected? Was it better or worse?” This class was very different than what I expected, I hadn’t had Mrs. Lewis since sophomore year Geometry, so I was not use to her teaching style of talking through problems and making sure everyone is on the same page, which was nice. I expected this class to be harder as well, knowing that I am bad at math I was honestly just expecting the worst. The better difference I noticed is that every chapter we went through was thorough and that Mrs. Lewis was open to answering questions, at any time. I need to ask questions right when they arise so that I can fix my mistake before it’s permanently in my head, and Mrs. Lewis would never have us wait, and I appreciated that. The not so good difference is that this was a class of all seniors, I’ve never had some of these students in my class before so it was a new environment that I had to adjust to. It was an easy adjustment but I do prefer a quiet class. Overall this class was enjoyable and I have learned that I prefer my math classes in the morning so that my mind is awake and ready to learn, since I am a morning person. I have received some of my best math grades this year and I’m happy to say I passed with a 4.0 GPA every quarter.
